Volunteering has always been an important part of my life, a habit ingrained in me by my parents (my dad, my late mother, and my step-mom). From my six years in the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland to my involvement with the RISE Dance Arts & Co. Competitive Dance Team and the Maize South Drama Clubs & Maize South Colorguard, to assisting with my twin sister’s participation with The Meaningful Life Foundation of Wichita, helping provide opportunities to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through life-enriching programs through health and fitness, volunteerism and community socialization. For me, volunteering has been more than just some activities; it's been a way for me to understand and interact with my little slice of the world around me. When starting MyPetFriendsICT in 2023, I was able to merge my passion for pets and my love for the ICT local community, and I've found a fulfilling way to contribute my values and interests to others!

Finding a Cause That I Love 

Choosing to dedicate my time and energy to a cause I love—like supporting local animal charities—wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment decision; it was a choice influenced by my Midwestern upbringing and personal values. These activities aren't merely about filling time; it's about making a meaningful difference. Here in the ICT, a place that I love to call home, I believe my volunteering has the ability to touch all aspects of the ICT community, enhancing the quality of services and events that enrich our lives.

Giving Back to ICT Community

Volunteering locally allows me to connect deeply with the ICT community. It's not just about giving back but also about understanding and participating actively in the societal dynamics that shape our daily existence. By working with others who share a commitment to bettering our surroundings, I've been able to expand my network and deepen my understanding of the diverse experiences and challenges faced by my neighbors.

Growth Through Service

The benefits of volunteering extend beyond social contributions; they have helped foster personal growth too! Engaging in various tasks and challenges while performing volunteer work has helped build patience, kindness, and perseverance. These experiences have not only allowed me to develop practical skills but have also helped me discover new passions and interests. For instance, my involvement in making and distributing homemade pet treats has not only been a delightful way to merge my love for animals with my culinary skills but also an avenue to learn more about nutrition and pet health.

Broadening My Perspectives

One of the most invaluable aspects of volunteering is the broadened perspective it offers. Meeting people from different walks of life, understanding their circumstances, and working together towards common goals has enriched my worldview. This exposure has been instrumental in shaping me to be a more informed and empathetic citizen, equipped to make more impactful contributions to society. I am looking forward to my Senior Year at Maize South High School, along with my Senior Trip next year and the opportunity to explore London & Paris and see the differences between how Europeans and Americans live! After the conclusion of my high school career, I hope to continue on with my volunteering experiences at Butler Community College in El Dorado.

As I continue on this path, I am eager to see how my efforts will continue to positively affect both my personal growth and the well-being of my community...
